We Pay More for the Right Car

Not every used car is the same. Two vehicles of the same age and model can have completely different histories depending on how they’ve been driven, maintained and looked after.

That’s why we’re particularly interested in cars that have clearly been cared for. Our ideal vehicles will often have:

• Low mileage
• A low number of previous owners
• Full or comprehensive service history
• No known mechanical faults
• Excellent bodywork and interior condition
• Good provenance
• Typically five years old or younger
• Typically fewer than 50,000 miles

Those age and mileage figures aren’t rigid rules.

We regularly consider vehicles outside them where the condition, history and overall quality are right. A well-maintained older vehicle with more than 50,000 miles can still be exactly the sort of car we want to buy.

What matters most is how the car has been looked after.

What Are We Less Likely to Buy?

There are also certain types of vehicle that are less likely to be suitable for our stock.

These can include:

• Very high-mileage vehicles
• Cars without supporting service history
• Vehicles with significant accident damage
• Cars that have been poorly maintained or neglected
• Vehicles with unresolved mechanical problems

Why are we particular? Because when we buy a vehicle, there’s a good chance it could eventually be offered to one of our own customers. And we want to be confident in what we put our name to.

The Cars We Buy Become the Cars We Sell

This is where our vehicle-buying standards matter just as much to buyers as they do to sellers. We don’t simply look for cars that photograph well. The aim is to source vehicles with the right history, condition and overall quality before they even begin our preparation process.

Once a vehicle is selected for retail, County Garage’s used cars undergo comprehensive mechanical and bodywork inspection as part of their preparation. Our published used-car benefits also include service-history checks, mileage and provenance checks, a full valet and warranty and roadside-assistance provision, depending on the vehicle.

That means the quality of our used-car stock starts before the car reaches the workshop or forecourt.

While we will happily consider older or higher-mileage vehicles when they meet our standards, much of the stock we aim to source is relatively young and lower mileage.

That helps us offer customers a selection of used cars that combine value with plenty of useful life ahead of them.

Our current stock regularly includes recent vehicles with comparatively low mileage, demonstrating the type of cars we like to have available where possible.

For buyers, that means more choice among cars that have often had fewer years on the road.
